New Castle County, DE Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Under the county's Property Maintenance Code, no vehicle longer than 240 inches, wider or taller than 84 inches, or heavier than 8,000 pounds may be parked or stored outside a fully enclosed building in a residential district. Exceptions exist only for service/work vehicles while work is underway, one screened oversized vehicle on a 2+ acre lot, or up to two on a 1+ acre lot with arterial access. Construction equipment (cranes, backhoes, dump trucks, and similar) is separately barred from residential-zoned land outright. This applies in unincorporated New Castle County and in any incorporated municipality that opts in to county property-maintenance enforcement; Wilmington and Newark run their own codes and are not covered here.
