These county ordinances apply to unincorporated areas of Honolulu County. Incorporated cities within the county may have their own rules that take precedence over county-level regulations.

Whenever any curb markings are to be used to designate freight curb loading zones, such markings shall be yellow in color. Whenever any curb markings are to be used to designate passenger curb loading zones, including bus stops, such markings shall be red in color. Whenever any curb markings are to be used to designate combination freight and passenger curb loading zones, such markings shall be alternatively colored yellow and red, and signs shall be erected stating the specific days and times when each type of loading zone is in effect.

Full Breakdown

The Revised Ordinances of Honolulu color-code curb loading zones citywide: yellow curb paint marks freight zones where trucks may load or unload cargo, red marks passenger and bus zones, and alternating yellow-red marks combination zones with posted hours for each use. The department of transportation services designates zone locations through Schedule XXIV, and permits or decals from the department of customer services authorize commercial vehicles to use freight zones. A vehicle parked in a freight zone in violation of the posted rules can be removed at the owner's expense on order of the chief of police.

Violations & Fines

Standing or parking against the posted zone color and time restrictions is an illegal-stopping violation; the chief of police can have the vehicle towed at the owner's expense under § 15-15.1(b).
