DeKalb County, GA Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Section 17-148 sets aside 80 feet of curb at each bus stop as a no-parking zone so buses have room to load and unload passengers. Subsection (b) then dictates how the public learns where the zone is: every zone must be marked by signs, and in all congested areas the code requires a second, more visible cue, the curb painted yellow. The maintenance burden for that marking falls on the companies operating buses in and out of the zone, so faded paint or missing signs are the bus operator's responsibility to fix, not the abutting property owner's.

Subsection (c) directs the buses themselves: any bus or vehicle parked in a zone for the purpose of loading and unloading passengers must pull as close to the curb as possible, which keeps the stopped bus out of the travel lane. Subsection (d) adds one carve-out: where the street provides platforms at loading zones for that purpose, nothing in this section prohibits buses from loading and unloading there. The rule traces back to the county's 1976 code, where it appeared as § 8-10019, and it is enforced in the unincorporated area.
