Prince George's County restricts parking through official signs and pavement markings rather than a color-coded curb system. The Director is authorized to place roadway markings, and parking is prohibited wherever an official sign or marking says so under Section 26-127.04.
Prince George's County Code Subtitle 26 does not codify a red/yellow/green curb-color scheme. Instead, parking restrictions are established by official traffic-control devices. Under Section 26-121, the Director may limit stopping, standing, or parking, but such restrictions are effective only when official traffic-control devices are erected and in place. Section 26-109 authorizes the Director to designate crosswalks and safety zones by roadway markings, and Section 26-110 authorizes marking traffic lanes. Section 26-127.04 makes it unlawful to park where prohibited by an official sign. Only County or municipal authorities may place these markings; painting a public curb without authorization is not permitted.
Parking where prohibited by an official sign or marking is a violation of Section 26-127.04, subject to a $50 fine (or $100 for residential parking). Restrictions are unenforceable unless official devices are posted per Section 26-121.
