You may cross a curb, sidewalk, or planting strip only at an authorized driveway, and you are liable for any damage you cause. Salem also bans parking within the landscape strip. New rural driveway approaches need a county access permit.
MCC 10.10.060(B) prohibits driving any vehicle on a curb, sidewalk, or roadside planting strip except to cross at an authorized permanent or temporary driveway, and holds the driver responsible for repair costs of any damage. Salem Revised Code 102.040(c) makes it unlawful to park any vehicle within the landscape strip. New or altered driveway approaches onto a Marion County road require an access/right-of-way permit from Marion County Public Works; within cities, the city public works department issues driveway permits under its own standards.
Driving over a curb or planting strip is punishable by a fine up to $100 plus repair costs (MCC 10.10.060-.070).
