Vehicles must generally park on an approved driveway, not on lawns. In Crystal Lake, motor homes over 25 feet may sit on a driveway no more than 10 days per month.
A driveway is defined in the McHenry County UDO as a paved or unpaved access strip connecting a lot to the street. Vehicles should be parked on the driveway or another approved surface rather than on the front lawn. Crystal Lake permits smaller RVs, boats, and trailers (under 11 feet tall, 25 feet long) on a residential driveway, but motor homes over 25 feet in length may only be temporarily parked on a residential driveway for a period not to exceed 10 days in one month, and not while occupied. Driveway construction, width, and surfacing are separately regulated (Crystal Lake Chapter 570). Check your municipality for front-yard parking bans.
Zoning and property-maintenance violations typically bring daily fines until corrected; parking on lawns or overstaying RV limits can trigger citations and towing.
