Prince William County, VA Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

County Code Sec. 13-330 governs any curb space the county has marked and signed as a loading zone. No one may stop, stand, or park there for any purpose other than the expeditious unloading, delivery, pickup, or loading of materials during the hours the posted regulations are in effect. Delivery vehicles using the zone, other than regular delivery trucks, must carry the owner's or company's name in letters at least three inches high on both sides of the vehicle so enforcement officers can identify who the space is legitimately serving.

Passenger vehicles get a narrow carve-out: a driver may stop temporarily in a marked curb loading zone to load or unload passengers or bundles, but only while actually engaged in that activity and only if the stop does not block a materials-delivery vehicle that is waiting to enter or about to enter the same space. The rule traces to former Code 1965 Sec. 1-144 and has carried forward unchanged into the current Code. It sits in Article XI of Chapter 13 alongside the county's other curb-use rules, including the adjoining Sec.

13-331 governing bus stops and taxicab stands, and Sec. 13-329's ban on backing a vehicle to a curb except while actively loading or unloading. Enforcement falls under the general parking-violation penalty structure in Article XI rather than a standalone fine schedule specific to loading zones, so an officer who finds a vehicle occupying a posted loading zone outside the narrow exceptions can issue a citation under this article.
