McLean County, IL Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

McLean County Zoning Code § 350-68 sets the location, size and surfacing standards for every accessory off-street loading space required under Article IX. Under § 350-68A(2), no permitted or required loading space may sit within 40 feet of the nearest point where two streets intersect, and none may be placed in a required front or side yard; a loading space located in a required rear yard must be open to the sky rather than enclosed. Where a lot with a required loading space sits less than 40 feet from a residence-district property line and no transition belt is required, the loading area must be screened per the transition-screen standard in § 350-52.

Section 350-68B fixes the minimum berth at 12 feet wide by 50 feet long, exclusive of aisles and maneuvering space, with at least 14 feet of vertical clearance; buildings over 200,000 square feet housing clubs, hotels, auditoriums, hospitals, institutions or nursing homes use that same 12-by-50 minimum. Section 350-68D requires every open loading space to be graded and paved with asphalt, concrete, or asphaltic concrete approved by the County Engineer, and § 350-68F bars using loading-space area to satisfy separate off-street parking requirements. No vehicle repair or servicing may be performed in a loading space under § 350-68E. These standards bind unincorporated county development only; Bloomington and Normal set their own commercial loading rules.
