Suffolk has no citywide overnight ban on passenger vehicles parking on public streets. Overnight limits apply only where signs are posted, plus a standing midnight-to-6 a.m. ban on trucks, trailers, and commercial buses.
Unlike some cities, Suffolk does not broadly prohibit residents' cars from parking on the street overnight. On-street parking is governed by Chapter 86, Article IV, which restricts parking where signs are posted (Sec. 86-108 and 86-109) and lets the city manager set additional rules (Sec. 86-103). The main overnight restriction is Sec. 86-116, which bars trucks, trailers, semitrailers, and commercial buses from any street between midnight and 6 a.m. for more than one hour. Vehicles left too long in one spot can be treated as abandoned. Many Suffolk HOAs impose their own overnight parking rules on community streets.
Overnight violations occur only where signs prohibit parking or for oversized vehicles under Sec. 86-116; penalties are $15 to $25 waivable, up to $50 if unpaid, plus possible towing. HOA fines are separate.
