Suffolk allows a recreational vehicle to be parked in a home's driveway or back yard, but it cannot be lived in while parked and cannot be stored on a vacant lot. Trailers face street-parking limits.
Suffolk permits residents to keep recreational vehicles, campers, and boats on their own residential property, parked in the driveway or in the back yard. The city prohibits using a parked RV as living quarters and prohibits storing one on a vacant parcel. On public streets, trailers and semitrailers are treated like large commercial vehicles: City Code Sec. 86-117 limits them to one hour in residential zoning districts, and Sec. 86-116 bans them from any street between midnight and 6 a.m. for longer than one hour. HOAs in many Suffolk subdivisions add stricter storage and screening rules.
Living in a parked RV or storing one on a vacant lot is a zoning violation subject to code-enforcement penalties. Trailers left on residential streets beyond one hour may be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.
