Davie restricts oversized and recreational vehicles in residential areas through its own Code. Town Code Section 24-43.1 bars utility trailers, boats, and RVs from driveways, front yards, sidewalks, and swales (requiring side or rear yard storage), and Section 12-33(G) prohibits larger commercial vehicles and construction equipment in residential districts, referencing GVWR Classes 1 through 8.
The Town of Davie regulates oversized vehicles - including RVs, large trailers, buses, semitrailers, and heavy commercial equipment - through two main provisions of its Code of Ordinances. For recreational oversized vehicles, Town Code Section 24-43.1 (Restrictions on vehicle parking) provides that utility trailers, boats, and RVs shall not be parked or stored within a driveway, front yard, sidewalk, or swale area and must be relocated to the side or rear yard; in residential districts other than RR, A-1, AG, and R-1, registered non-commercial trailers must additionally be kept in a carport or garage or screened from public view in the side or rear yard (Section 12-33(G)). For oversized commercial vehicles, Section 12-33(G) prohibits commercial vehicles and construction equipment from being parked, stored, or maintained within a residentially zoned district, whether on private property, swale areas, or public or private road rights-of-way. The Town describes vehicles using Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) classes, which the Code references as Classes 1 through 8 (from under 6,000 pounds up to over 33,000 pounds), so heavy buses, refuse trucks, semitrailers, and tractor-trailers fall squarely within the commercial-vehicle prohibition. The combined effect is that large recreational vehicles must be stored discreetly to the side or rear of a residential lot, while oversized commercial vehicles and construction equipment are not permitted in residential districts at all. Enforcement is by the Town's Code Compliance Division.
Keeping an oversized recreational vehicle in a prohibited location (driveway, front yard, swale) or any oversized commercial vehicle/construction equipment in a residential district is a Code Compliance violation under Sections 24-43.1 and 12-33(G), enforced through Notice of Violation, Special Magistrate hearings, fines, and liens. Code Compliance: 954-693-8237.
