Durham's UDO caps vehicles parked in residential areas at 35 feet long, 8 feet wide and 12 feet high; anything larger, plus heavy equipment and tractor-trailers, cannot be parked at a home.
UDO 10.2.3C provides that 'Vehicles parked in residential areas shall not exceed 35 feet in overall length, eight feet in width or 12 feet in height.' Larger vehicles, along with heavy equipment and tractor-trailers (10.2.3F), are not permitted except for approved home occupations or deliveries. Boats, campers and trailers must additionally be stored to the rear of the home and off the street (10.2.3E). These size limits apply in both the City of Durham and unincorporated county under the shared UDO.
Handled as a UDO zoning violation by Durham Planning; the owner receives notice to remove the oversized vehicle, with civil penalties for continued violations.
