Lake Forest prohibits parking on a public street any vehicle over 22 feet long, over 90 inches wide, with more than two axles, a commercial vehicle over seven feet high, or over 10,000 pounds. Oversized vehicles may stop only for loading/unloading, service, or emergency repair, up to 72 hours. Permit neighborhoods require a placard; the city issues permanent and temporary permits.
Lake Forest's oversized-vehicle rule sits in Title 12, Chapter 12.16 of the Municipal Code (Section 12.16.070). It prohibits any vehicle from being stopped, parked, or left standing on a public street if the vehicle exceeds 22 feet in length, has more than two axles, is a commercial vehicle greater than seven feet in height, weighs more than 10,000 pounds, or exceeds 90 inches in width as measured at the widest portion of the body. When an oversized vehicle is allowed to park, it is limited to active loading or unloading of persons or property, work in connection with a service, or performing emergency repairs to the vehicle, for a maximum of 72 consecutive hours. The city pairs this prohibition with a permit program: in neighborhoods subject to oversized-vehicle parking restrictions, residents and visitors must display a parking permit placard to avoid a citation, and both permanent and temporary permits are available through an application process administered by the city. Trailers attached to vehicles are also targeted in residential areas to discourage long-term street storage and protect neighborhood aesthetics, with exceptions for loading and unloading and for trailers on private property. Mobile vending vehicles actively engaged in commercial vending are exempt from the oversized-vehicle prohibition but must obtain a Commercial Vending Vehicle (CVV) permit. These local limits rely on California Vehicle Code Sections 22507 and 35701, which let cities regulate the parking of oversized and heavy vehicles on designated streets. Enforcement is by Orange County Sheriff (Lake Forest Police Services) and city parking-control staff.
Parking a vehicle on a Lake Forest public street that exceeds any of the size or weight thresholds (over 22 feet long, over 90 inches wide, more than two axles, a commercial vehicle over seven feet high, or over 10,000 pounds) outside of permitted loading/unloading, service, or emergency-repair activity, or for more than 72 consecutive hours, violates Section 12.16.070. Parking such a vehicle in a designated oversized-vehicle restriction neighborhood without displaying a valid permit placard is also citable. Citations are issued by Orange County Sheriff (Lake Forest Police Services) and city staff; appeals are processed through Data Ticket, Inc.
