The City of Maricopa restricts oversized vehicles under Municipal Code 10.20.070. An oversized motor vehicle is defined as one 84 inches or more in width (excluding mirrors) and more than 22 feet long, or above a set gross-weight rating. Such vehicles and large nonmotorized vehicles generally may not be parked on residential streets except briefly for loading, unloading, cleaning, or travel-related activity.
Maricopa Municipal Code 10.20.070 (Prohibition against the parking of oversized motor vehicles and nonmotorized vehicles) limits where large vehicles may be parked in the City. An oversized motor vehicle is defined as any motor vehicle 84 inches or more in width (excluding side mirrors) and more than 22 feet in length, or above a specified gross-vehicle-weight rating. The prohibition does not apply to oversized or nonmotorized vehicles parked for less than 12 hours for loading, unloading, cleaning, or other travel-related activities, nor to such vehicles parked in residential areas zoned rural where the minimum lot size is one acre or more. This restriction works alongside the heavy/commercial-vehicle limits in Chapter 10.20 and the truck-route requirements in MCC 10.30.010, under which regulated trucks (those needing an ADOT oversize/overweight permit under A.R.S. 28-1103) must stay on designated truck routes except for the shortest path to a local delivery. The general 72-hour street limit in MCC 10.20.040 also applies.
Oversized-vehicle parking violations under MCC 10.20.070 are enforced by the Maricopa Police Department; vehicles may be cited and are subject to removal. Heavy commercial vehicles are additionally restricted under Chapter 10.20, and truck-route violations are enforced under MCC 10.30.
