The City of Maricopa addresses abandoned vehicles in Municipal Code Chapter 8.20. MCC 8.20.010 defines an abandoned vehicle as an unregistered motor vehicle or RV left unattended for 72 hours on a street or private property that is inoperable, stripped, unclaimed, scrapped, junked, or discarded. MCC 8.20.040 makes it unlawful to leave such a vehicle on any city street, alley, parking lot, or right-of-way.
Maricopa Municipal Code 8.20.010 (Definitions) defines an 'abandoned vehicle' as an unregistered motor vehicle or recreational vehicle left unattended for a period of 72 hours on a street or private property which is inoperable, stripped, unclaimed, scrapped, junked, or discarded; the term also reaches a vehicle being repaired when such repairs take 72 hours or more. Under MCC 8.20.040 (Nuisances), no person may leave, place, or park any abandoned vehicle upon any city right-of-way, street, alley, parking lot, or other city property, and unsheltered storage of abandoned vehicles or vehicle parts on private property is regulated as a nuisance. Separately, the 72-hour street-parking limit in MCC 10.20.040 allows removal and storage of any vehicle left on a public street for 72 or more consecutive hours at the owner's expense. The City coordinates with Arizona's abandoned-vehicle removal and disposal procedures under A.R.S. Title 28 for towing, notice, and disposition.
Abandoned-vehicle complaints are handled by Maricopa Code Enforcement (Development Services) and the Police Department. Vehicles may be removed and stored at the owner's expense, and unsheltered storage on private property is abatable as a nuisance under MCC 8.20.040, with civil penalties for continuing violations.
