Section 9-7-5 keeps any vehicle out of fire lanes, posted no-parking zones, and within 15 feet of hydrants, which limits where large vehicles can sit. On residential property, the Town's Zoning Ordinance generally prohibits the long-term parking or storage of large vehicles, recreational vehicles, boats, trailers, equipment, and similar items in residential districts except where expressly permitted; when allowed, such items must be located behind required setbacks, screened from public view, and meet minimum separation distances from property lines and residential uses. Generally only one RV may be stored, kept behind the front-yard setback, with larger R1-35 lots of one acre or more permitted more. Violations of the public-street rules are civil traffic offenses with possible towing under Section 9-7-10.
Leaving an oversized trailer, semi-trailer, or motor home on a public street beyond two hours (Sec. 9-7-6), or in a way that blocks a travel lane, is a civil traffic offense and the vehicle may be towed (Sec. 9-7-10). Storing large vehicles, boats, or equipment long-term in a residential yard, unscreened, in a setback, or in violation of separation distances, violates the Zoning Ordinance and is handled by code compliance.
