Queen Creek regulates fence and wall height through Section 5.2 of its Zoning Ordinance. The Town's definitions set three standard types: a solid fence at 6 feet solid (0 view), a view fence at 3 feet solid plus 3 feet of view material (50% open), and a partial-view fence at 4 feet solid plus 2 feet of view (33% open). Permitted heights and required types vary by yard location and adjacency.
Queen Creek's Zoning Ordinance (originally adopted January 6, 1999, updated January 19, 2023) addresses fences and walls in Section 5.2, with definitions in Article 1. The ordinance defines FENCE, SOLID as a fence achieving total opacity described as '6 foot solid โ 0 foot view'; FENCE, VIEW as at least 50 percent open, described as '3 foot solid, 3 foot view'; and FENCE, PARTIAL VIEW as at least 33 percent open, described as '4 foot solid, 2 foot view.' These definitions frame the common 6-foot perimeter wall height while requiring the upper portion to be open in many locations. Solid 6-foot walls are limited to side and rear yards that are not adjacent to open space, trails or streets; lots fronting major or collector roadways and open space must instead use view or partial-view fencing so neighborhoods and law enforcement retain sightlines, a rule rooted in standards the Town first adopted in 1996. Section 5.2 has been amended by Ordinance 382-07 (Solid Fence/Wall Standards) and Ordinance 415-07 (Solid Fence and Landscaping Standards). Exact maximum heights differ by zoning district and yard, so confirm your specific limit with Planning Staff (480-358-3092) before building.
Building a fence or wall taller than allowed, or installing a solid wall where a view or partial-view fence is required (such as along major roadways or open space), is a zoning violation. Code Compliance may issue a notice of violation requiring the wall to be modified, lowered, or rebuilt to the correct openness standard, and may withhold permit finals until corrected.
