RV and boat parking regulated at the town or city level across Albany County. Most suburban towns (Bethlehem, Colonie, Guilderland) restrict RVs on residential lots to side or rear yards.
Recreational vehicle and boat parking is regulated by each Albany County municipality. Town of Bethlehem Zoning Chapter 128 allows one RV or boat on a residential lot if stored in the rear yard, behind the front building line; overnight camping in the RV is prohibited except for 72 hours for visitors. Town of Colonie Chapter 190 restricts RVs, boats, and trailers to side or rear yard, behind front setback, with maximum 32 ft length. Town of Guilderland Chapter 280 limits to one RV/boat per residential lot, not on street, in side or rear yard, with 5 ft setback from lot line. City of Albany Zoning Chapter 375 prohibits RVs and boats from being stored on residential front yards or street parking; driveways allowed for active use only (loading, cleaning). On-street overnight parking of oversized vehicles (over 20 ft or 9,000 lbs GVW) is prohibited citywide under Vehicle & Traffic Code Chapter 359. CDTA bus routes and snow emergency routes have additional restrictions. RVs used as permanent dwellings (NOT allowed in any zone as primary residence) trigger code enforcement regardless of setbacks. Commercial vehicles under 10,000 lbs are treated separately.
City of Albany oversized vehicle parking: $50-$150 per ticket, towing at owner expense. Town zoning violations: $100-$500 per day. Chronic offenders may receive cease-and-desist order from code enforcement.
