The county adopts state motor-vehicle law and prohibits parking that obstructs traffic. Trucks with dual tires over 6,000 pounds and any trailer, semitrailer, or cab are banned from roads in residential districts, so most street parking is limited to ordinary passenger vehicles.
Chesterfield County Code Chapter 13, Article III governs stopping, standing, and parking, and Chapter 13 adopts Virginia's state traffic laws by reference. Virginia Code sec. 46.2-1224 authorizes counties to regulate street parking. Passenger cars may generally park on public streets unless signed otherwise, but the county specifically restricts heavy trucks and trailers on residential roads (sec. 13-42). Many Chesterfield subdivision streets are private or HOA-controlled, where additional parking limits apply. Vehicles left unmoved can be treated as abandoned after four days under sec. 13-64.
Police issue parking tickets; illegally parked or obstructing vehicles may be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense under Chapter 13.
