Public street parking in unincorporated Pierce County is governed chiefly by Washington's uniform traffic code, RCW 46.61.570, which the County enforces through the Sheriff's Department. State law bars stopping, standing, or parking a vehicle within an intersection, on a crosswalk, on a sidewalk or planting strip, on the roadway side of a parked vehicle (double parking), or at any place marked by official signs. Standing or parking is prohibited within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within 20 feet of a crosswalk, and within 30 feet of a stop sign, yield sign, or traffic signal. Under RCW 46.61.570(2), a county may impose time limits or restrict parking on roads under its jurisdiction by county resolution or order.
