Paramus Chapter 339 prohibits exterior conditions that constitute blighting factors and requires owners to repair properties within 45 days of Borough notice.
Chapter 339, the Property Maintenance Code, addresses substandard structures, inadequate maintenance, infestation, and unsanitary conditions that the Borough finds may create blight. Nonresidential exteriors and accessory structures must be maintained so the appearance reflects the surrounding zoning district and does not become a blighting factor depreciating adjoining properties. Owners receiving notice of violation have 45 days to voluntarily make repairs at their own expense to standards established by the Borough and Department of Public Works; otherwise, the Borough may complete the work and bill the owner.
Failure to abate blight conditions within 45 days of notice exposes owners to municipal repair costs, liens against the property, and ongoing fines.
