Schaumburg requires property owners to clear snow and ice from public sidewalks adjacent to their property within 24 hours after snowfall ends. Failure to maintain safe walkways may result in code enforcement action.
Under the Schaumburg Village Code, property owners and occupants must remove snow and ice from public sidewalks abutting their property within 24 hours after cessation of snowfall. If ice cannot be fully removed, the owner must apply sand, salt, or other abrasive material to provide safe footing. The Village's Code Enforcement Division monitors compliance, particularly along commercial corridors and near schools. The Village also maintains a snow removal program for public streets and Village-owned sidewalks through the Public Works Department. Repeated failures to clear sidewalks may result in the Village performing the work and billing the property owner.
Code enforcement notice with fines starting at $75 per violation. Village may clear and bill the property owner for costs.
