Alameda's franchised hauler, Alameda County Industries (ACI), provides wheeled garbage, recycling, and organics carts. Carts must be set at the curb by 5 a.m. on the collection day, placed about three feet apart, and removed after pickup. Carts should be stored out of public view between collections.
Solid waste service in the City of Alameda is provided by the exclusive franchised hauler, Alameda County Industries (ACI), under its franchise agreement with the City. ACI issues wheeled carts: garbage carts in 10, 20, 32, 64, and 96-gallon sizes (the 10-gallon rate is grandfathered and closed to new customers), recycling carts in 32, 64, and 96-gallon sizes, and organics carts in 13, 20, 32, 64, and 96-gallon sizes. Per ACI's Alameda set-out guidance, residents should place carts at the curb by 5 a.m. on their collection day, with wheels against the curb and carts facing the street, leave three feet between each cart, and keep carts clear of parked cars, fire hydrants, and low branches; carts must stay at the curb until emptied and then be removed. The City's blight and maintenance provisions (AMC Chapter IV, Article I) require property visible from the street to be kept free of waste matter, which in practice means carts and overflowing refuse should not be left out or visible between collection days. ACI is reached at 510-483-1400 for cart sizing, exchanges, and questions.
Carts left at the curb between collection days, overflowing carts, or refuse stored in public view can be addressed under the City's property-maintenance provisions. ACI handles cart delivery, repair, and exchange.
