Town of Babylon Property Maintenance Code Chapter 152 requires trash bins to be stored out of front-yard view behind the front building line, in watertight covered containers. Bins may be at the curb only from the evening before to the evening of collection day.
Babylon Town Code Chapter 152 (Property Maintenance) and Chapter 194 (Solid Waste and Recyclables), administered by the Town's Department of Public Works, require all residential trash, recyclable, and yard-waste containers to be stored behind the front building line of the dwelling and out of public view when not at the curb for collection. Containers must be watertight, rodent-resistant, and fitted with tight-fitting covers to prevent spillage and attraction of wildlife, which is particularly important on the South Shore where raccoons and gulls are common. Residents may place bins at the curb no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the evening before their scheduled collection day and must retrieve empty bins by the end of the collection day. The Town operates its own municipal sanitation service. Commercial properties are subject to separate dumpster enclosure requirements under Chapter 213 (screening) and Chapter 152. Bulk pickup of large items is available by appointment.
First notice: warning with 10-day cure period. Continued violation: fines up to $250 per offense under Chapter 203 and potential daily accruing penalties. Illegal dumping penalties separately reach $1,000+.
