Ontario prohibits storing trash, recycling, and organics carts in front yards or visible from the public right-of-way between collection days under the Development Code and OMC Chapter 4.
Residential properties in Ontario must screen solid waste containers from public view on non-collection days. The Ontario Development Code (Title 9) prohibits placement of refuse, recycling, and organics carts in front setback areas or within view of the street between pickups, requiring storage behind a solid fence, wall, in a garage, in a side yard, or in a screened rear yard. Carts placed early or left at the curb beyond 24 hours are subject to citation under OMC Section 4-4. Commercial dumpsters must be enclosed in a trash enclosure built to the City standard drawing, with solid masonry walls at least 6 feet tall, solid-view gates, and a concrete pad sloped to prevent runoff into storm drains per the City's MS4 permit. Code Enforcement can issue an administrative citation starting at 100 dollars for a first violation, 200 dollars for a second, and 500 dollars for a third within 12 months under OMC Chapter 1 Administrative Citation Program. Repeated nuisance can escalate to a public nuisance abatement.
