Richardson's solid waste system (Chapter 19) is unique in that the city does not use trash receptacles for regular collection. Residents place trash in bags at their collection point. Most homes have alley collection; those on streets with unpaved alleys have front curb collection. City Ordinance requires bags be set out by 7:00 AM on collection day and prohibits leaving bags out on non-collection days. Maximum bag weight is 50 pounds. The city recommends black or dark-colored bags of 2 mils thickness. Bulky items and brush require a separate BABIC request. Recycling uses blue bins provided by the city for curbside collection.
Setting trash out on non-collection days or exceeding weight limits results in Code Enforcement citations. Bags over 50 pounds will not be collected.
