Richardson enforces property maintenance standards under Chapter 14 (Nuisances) and minimum property standards. Properties must be free of trash, debris, and accumulated materials. Code Enforcement conducts daily residential inspections.
Richardson's Code Enforcement division actively enforces property maintenance through daily residential inspections. Chapter 14 (Nuisances) and minimum property standards require that properties be maintained free of accumulated trash, debris, open storage, and other conditions that constitute a nuisance. Properties must maintain structural integrity and exterior appearance. Vacant properties are subject to the same maintenance standards as occupied ones. The city evaluates high grass and weeds, vegetation, fences, open storage, trash and debris, brush/bulky items, minimum property standards, and junk vehicles during inspections. Violations receive notice with a compliance period before citations are issued.
Property maintenance violations carry fines up to $2,000 per day. The city may abate nuisances and charge costs to the property owner. Liens may be placed on the property.
