Tomball requires trash and recycling containers to be placed at the curb on collection day and returned to storage promptly after pickup. Containers should not be visible from the street on non-collection days. The city provides automated collection service with standardized carts.
Tomball's solid waste collection service uses standardized automated carts for trash and recycling. Containers must be placed at the curb by 7:00 AM on collection day with handles facing the house and lids closed. Carts should be at least 3 feet apart and not blocking mailboxes, fire hydrants, or utility meters. Containers must be returned to a storage location not visible from the street within 12 hours after collection. On non-collection days, carts should be stored in the garage, behind the house, or in a screened area. Leaving containers at the curb on non-collection days is a code enforcement violation. Overflowing containers, trash outside the cart, and debris around collection areas are also violations. Bulk items and large yard waste require separate scheduling through the city's waste services. The city provides one trash cart and one recycling cart per household. Additional carts may be available for a monthly fee. Contact Public Works at (281) 290-1012 for collection schedules and cart requests.
Leaving trash containers at the curb on non-collection days is a property maintenance violation. Overflowing containers or loose trash around carts may result in citations. Fines up to $2,000 per day apply for ongoing violations after notice.
