Manatee County, FL Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Manatee County's parks chapter treats skating as a default-allowed activity rather than something requiring a permit. Sec. 2-24-7(10), inside the "Behavior" article of Chapter 2-24 (Sports and Leisure Services and Natural Resources), states flatly that skating of any type, including in-line skates, skateboards or other rolling gear, is permitted on any park trail, with a single carve-out: a specific trail can be designated off-limits to skating, and that designation controls once posted. That default is broader than many of the chapter's other rules, most of which restrict an activity to designated areas, bicycles must stay on paved roads or bike paths under Sec.

2-24-5(7), for example; skating instead starts from "allowed" and only narrows where the county posts a sign saying otherwise. Sec. 2-24-7(8) backs that posting mechanism: no person may engage in an activity expressly prohibited by a posted sign, and damaging, removing or obstructing such a sign is its own violation. Chapter 2-24 covers every county-owned or county-operated park under Sec. 2-24-1, so the trail-by-trail posting approach applies uniformly from neighborhood parks to larger preserves. Skaters sharing trails with pedestrians and cyclists remain subject to the chapter's general conduct rules too, including the requirement to obey the direction of law enforcement or county employees enforcing park rules under Sec. 2-24-5(2).
