Collier County, FL Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Sec. 94-28, adopted by Ord. No. 92-69, prohibits operating a cycle, skateboard, roller skate, in-line skate, coaster, toy vehicle or similar conveyance on a sidewalk in front of or immediately adjacent to any entrance or exit used by the public at a retail business or service establishment inside a shopping center in the unincorporated county. The section also backs up private signage: if a landowner or the landowner's agent posts or paints a sign on or near a storefront sidewalk prohibiting these conveyances, disobeying that sign is itself a violation.

'Shopping center' is defined narrowly for this section as a group of unified commercial establishments planned, developed, owned or managed as one operating unit, with at least eight retail or service establishments and a combined 20,000 square feet of floor area; a marina, hotel or motel with accessory retail shops does not count, so a single strip of two or three stores or a standalone motel gift shop falls outside the section entirely. Enforcement is not limited to the Sheriff's Office. Sec. 94-28(d) lets any duly authorized law enforcement agency or other officer with subject-matter jurisdiction in the county write the citation, which in practice can include code enforcement personnel as well as deputies.
