Prince George's County, MD Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Section 26-146(a)(1) of the County Code lists skateboard riding alongside skating, climbing, and riding a bicycle, coasting device, or unregistered self-propelled vehicle as conduct "which may jeopardize the safety or welfare of persons or property" inside a public parking facility. The same subsection also bars ball playing, throwing or slinging objects, and sledding on the same property. The ban applies wherever Section 26-143 says Division 11 applies: every public parking facility in the County that is operated by a public agency or by the Revenue Authority of Prince George's County and requires regulatory enforcement, which covers County-run garages and surface lots, not private shopping-center lots or public streets.

01, and Section 26-148(b) lets police or the Revenue Authority impound any vehicle involved in a Division 11 violation that creates a hazard. The rule sits inside a broader parking-facility conduct code that also bans tampering with elevators or fire and parking equipment, depositing litter, and dodging posted parking fees. Skateboarders looking for a legal place to ride should note the County's separate Division 12 on bicycles and play vehicles, which lets the County Executive designate sidewalks and trails for combined bicycle, play-vehicle, and pedestrian use; that division does not carry the same blanket ban on skating or skateboarding found in Division 11's parking-facility rule.
