Lee's Summit's short-term rental ordinance requires safety equipment but not liability insurance. Missouri sets no statewide STR insurance mandate, so coverage is the host's own responsibility.
Section 6.505 does not require short-term rental hosts to carry liability insurance. It does mandate safety equipment: a functioning fire extinguisher, a smoke alarm in each bedroom, child-proofed outlets, an escape-route map, emergency contact information, and carbon-monoxide detection as required by code. Because standard homeowner policies exclude commercial rental activity, hosts commonly add a rider or a commercial short-term-rental policy to cover guest injuries; platform-provided coverage such as Airbnb's Host Protection can leave gaps. Missouri has enacted no STR-specific insurance statute.
There is no insurance penalty in Section 6.505. Missing required safety equipment, however, is a code violation that can block license renewal and expose an uninsured host to personal liability.
