STR guests in Jefferson County (Louisville Metro) are subject to LMCO Chapter 99 noise regulations. No separate STR-specific quiet hours apply. Hosts are responsible for guest compliance. Two substantiated complaints in 12 months can trigger STR permit revocation.
Jefferson County STR hosts and guests must comply with LMCO Chapter 99 general noise rules β the same standards that apply to all residents. Unreasonably loud, harsh, or excessive noise disturbing others is prohibited. Construction near homes is banned 9 PM to 7 AM. Louisville Metro's STR enforcement mechanism provides a strong incentive for hosts to manage noise: the Planning Director can revoke an STR registration upon two or more substantiated civil or criminal complaints within a 12-month period. Revoked permits cannot be re-registered for 12 months. The 2023 STR Ordinance did not create separate STR noise hours but strengthened the complaint-to-revocation pathway.
Noise violations: civil fines $100β$1,000 per offense (LMCO Ch. 99). STR permit revocation after 2 substantiated complaints/year.
