Lorain County sets no STR-specific noise rule for cities. A short-term rental must follow the same city noise and nuisance ordinance that applies to any residence, enforced by local police and code officials.
There is no countywide short-term-rental noise standard for incorporated areas; Ohio has no statewide numeric residential decibel limit either. Guests and hosts in Lorain, Elyria, and other Lorain County cities are bound by each city's general noise/nuisance ordinance and property-maintenance code, typically prohibiting unreasonably loud or disturbing sound. Persistent noise complaints can also count as violations supporting revocation of a Lorain Housing License under Cod. Ord. 1537.13. Unincorporated township residents rely on the county sheriff and township nuisance rules. We did not find a short-term-rental-specific noise clause quoted verbatim in the official code.
Noise is enforced under the applicable city nuisance ordinance; repeat problems at a Lorain STR can trigger license suspension or revocation.
