The City of Galveston administers STR registration. Licenses run the calendar year, January through December, are nontransferable, and require a named local contact available 24/7. Unincorporated Galveston County has no registration program.
Under Galveston Ord. 25-060, the City is the administrative agency for STR registration and posts an online list of registered units. Registration collects owner and operator names, the unit address, and a 24-hour local contact who must respond to complaints within one hour and remediate within two. A new owner must obtain a new license before operating. Each unit registers separately and receives its own registration number. Texas counties cannot zone, so no equivalent county registration exists in unincorporated areas like Bolivar Peninsula.
Continuing to operate after failing to pay the registration fee causes immediate suspension and is a violation; unresolved complaints are Class C misdemeanors up to $500/day.
