Montgomery County Code Chapter 54, Article III requires all short-term rental operators in Takoma Park to register with the Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) and obtain a license before beginning operations. The application requires proof that the property is the owner's primary residence, and the $500 annual fee must be submitted with the application. Upon filing, neighboring residents are notified of the application and have 30 days to file challenges at 240-777-0311. Applications are typically processed within 30 to 60 days (Section 54-45). Once approved, the license number must be displayed on all advertising platforms including Airbnb, VRBO, and similar listing services.
