Ouachita Parish, LA Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Article II of Chapter 15, adopted by Ordinance No. 8966 on September 7, 2010, governs temporary signs, posters and banners parishwide, including residential garage-sale signs. Sec. 15-31 sets the placement rules that apply to every covered sign: no placement on Ouachita Parish Police Jury property or public right-of-way, including boulevards, medians and neutral ground; no attachment to any tree, pole, monument or other structure on a public right-of-way; no placement that obscures or interferes with a traffic sign, signal or a driver's view of intersecting traffic; no placement within 10 feet of the edge of any parish roadway; and no placement that would violate state or federal law.

Sec. 15-32 exempts signs advertising activities conducted on the premises where they're erected, along with traffic-control signs. Sec. 15-33(3) then adds a removal deadline specific to non-commercial activity, expressly naming charitable events, political campaigns and residential garage sales: if a covered sign stays up in a prohibited location for more than 5 days after the event or activity it advertises has ended, the responsible person or entity is subject to a fine. The Ouachita Parish Public Works Department may physically remove a noncompliant sign and charge the removal cost to the responsible party under Sec. 15-33(1), separate from any fine assessed.
