Burlington County does not regulate garage-sale signs on streets or private lots; that is municipal. On county park property, posting any sign or notice or distributing advertisements is prohibited without written permission of the Board.
Rules for temporary garage-sale or yard-sale signs, including whether they may go on utility poles or in the public right-of-way and how long they can stay up, are set by your municipality's sign ordinance under N.J.S.A. 40:55D-65 (many towns also require a garage-sale permit). Burlington County has no countywide garage-sale-sign rule for private property. The county's only sign authority is over its own Parks System, where the Rules and Regulations prohibit posting signs or notices and distributing advertisements without the written permission of the Board of County Commissioners. Do not attach sale signs to county park property.
On municipal streets, code officers may remove illegal signs and fine violators; in county parks, offenders are removed as disorderly persons.
