Stark County, OH Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Garage and yard sale signs fall under Canton's temporary-sign rules in Codified Ordinance 1187.11. Temporary signs are exempt from permit requirements and may be displayed up to a maximum of 30 consecutive days, two times per year. A small temporary sign has a maximum area of six square feet. The ordinance also requires that the date of erection be written in indelible ink on the lower right-hand corner, that signs be durable and well-maintained, and that they not be illuminated. Signs must go on private property with permission, not on utility poles, tree lawns, or the public right-of-way, where the city may remove them. Township rules apply in unincorporated areas.
