Collier County requires a permit for garage or lawn sales, and garage-sale signs are temporary signs. On residential property a sign can't exceed 4 square feet or 3 feet in height, must stay on-site, and may not be placed in the public right-of-way.
Under LDC 5.04.05, a permit is required for garage sales, lawn sales, and similar temporary sales at private homes and other residential sites. The accompanying signs fall under LDC 5.04.06's temporary-sign standards: signs on residentially zoned property may not exceed 4 square feet in area or 3 feet in height, and, absent a contrary standard, must be located on-site and no closer than 10 feet to a property line. No temporary sign may be placed in a public right-of-way, and signs must not obstruct the safe visibility, ingress, or egress of pedestrians and motorists. City limits (Naples, Marco Island) have separate rules.
Signs placed in the right-of-way or off-site may be removed by the county without notice, and repeated violations are handled by Collier County Code Enforcement under the LDC.
