Showing ordinances that apply to Sandia Knolls, NM
Sandia Knolls is an unincorporated community (population 1,252) in Bernalillo County, New Mexico. Because Sandia Knolls is not an incorporated city, it does not have its own municipal code. Instead, Bernalillo County ordinances apply directly to properties here. The garage sale signs rules below are the ones that govern your area.
Bernalillo County permits temporary garage sale signs on private property under IDO ยง5-12. Off-premise signs in public right-of-way are prohibited per NMSA ยง67-7-10. Signs limited to 4 sq ft, maximum 3 days before/after sale.
Under Bernalillo County IDO ยง5-12, garage sale signs are classified as temporary non-commercial signs. On the host's own property, signs up to 4 square feet may be displayed. Off-premise directional signs placed on other private property require the property owner's consent. Signs in the public right-of-way (utility poles, traffic signs, medians, sidewalks) are prohibited under NMSA ยง67-7-10 and County Code Chapter 66 โ Public Works removes them without notice. The County does not require a garage sale permit, unlike some NM municipalities. Sales themselves are limited to 3 per year per household and may not exceed 3 consecutive days each under IDO ยง4-3(C)(7). Signs must come down within 24 hours of the sale's end. The City of Albuquerque has similar rules (ABQ ยง8-8) but adds a 2-sale-per-year cap in some zones.
Sign on utility pole or traffic sign: removed by County, fine $25โ$100 per sign under ยง66. Signs not removed after sale: $25/day fine. More than 3 sales/year: citation, may classify as commercial activity.
