Garage-sale signs fall under the City-Parish UDC temporary-sign rules: up to two per lot, six square feet each on a residential lot, no illumination, no permit, and never in the public right-of-way or on utility poles.
East Baton Rouge Parish does not have a garage-sale-specific sign ordinance; garage-sale signs are temporary signs under UDC Section 16.5.11. No more than two temporary signs are allowed per lot, each up to six square feet for residential uses in residential districts, they may not be illuminated, and they must be kept in good condition during display. Permitted temporary signs cannot be displayed more than three continuous months, and no residential temporary sign needs a permit. Section 16.3.7 bars placing signs in the public right-of-way or on utility poles, boxes, or trees. Note UDC 9.5.2(E) limits garage sales themselves to three per residential property in any 12-month period. Baker, Zachary and Central apply their own rules.
Signs over six square feet, more than two per lot, or posted in the right-of-way may be removed by the City-Parish; repeat sign violations are subject to UDC enforcement.
