Under LDC Ch. 7, Art. II, § 7-32, certain temporary residential signs are exempt from the standard sign-permit requirement. Garage-sale directional signs fall in this category when placed on private property. However, Ch. 7, Art. IV, § 7-81 makes it a violation to place any sign within the public right-of-way or medians; the right-of-way extends from the street edge to the sidewalk or utility infrastructure, whichever is farther. Code enforcement actively removes right-of-way signs. Signs should be taken down within 24 hours of the event's end to avoid litter and code violations. Size and number of exempt temporary signs are limited under § 7-32.
Signs placed in the right-of-way may be confiscated by code enforcement. Violations subject to fines under LDC enforcement; continued violations may escalate to $100+ per day. Citations may be issued under Ch. 7, Art. IV, § 7-81.
