Chapter 12, Article IV, Sections 12-92 through 12-97 of the Tallahassee Code of Ordinances govern noise disturbances. Section 12-95 exempts lawn mowers and yard maintenance equipment (including leaf blowers) from the maximum permissible sound level tables, but only when operated between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM and when manufacturer-standard mufflers and noise-reduction equipment are in use and in proper operating condition. Outside those hours, residential sound limits apply: 55 dB(A) during daytime, 50 dB(A) overnight (10 PM–7 AM). Tallahassee Police Department enforces via noise-meter readings at the complainant's property.
First violation: $150 citation. Second violation: $250. Third and subsequent violations: $500 or more. Officers issue a 10-minute grace period to reduce noise before citing, waived for repeat offenders within six months.
