Political signs are protected on private property in unincorporated Williamson County. The county has no sign ordinance, and Election Code §259.003 blocks any local sign rule that would ban a political sign, charge a fee, or cap its size when the owner consents.
A property owner in the unincorporated county may post political signs on their own land with no county permit or fee. The county has never adopted a sign ordinance for unincorporated areas, and §259.003 independently bars local governments from prohibiting, permitting, or size-limiting a political-message sign on private property that the owner consents to. State protection runs to signs up to eight feet high with an effective area of 36 square feet or less; larger signs fall outside the guarantee. Inside a subdivision, Election Code §259.002 stops a property owners' association from banning political signs from the 90th day before an election through the 10th day after, though the HOA may require ground-mounting and one sign per candidate or measure.
A sign placed in the state highway right-of-way violates Transportation Code §393.002 and can be removed. Oversized political signs above eight feet or 36 square feet lose the §259.003 protection.
