Lynwood Municipal Code section 25-70-7 limits political signs to 18 square feet in all zones and allows them only during a defined window around elections, prohibiting placement on public property or in the public right-of-way.
Under LMC 25-70-7, political signs may not exceed 18 square feet in any zone and may be erected only 45 days before and up to 10 days after the related election. Signs are prohibited on public property, within public parks or landscaped city grounds, in the public right-of-way, on medians, on traffic-control or utility devices, and on private property without the owner's consent. Electrically powered signs require a no-fee building permit. Violations carry a $250 fine, and the city may remove and store noncompliant signs for at least 30 days. Note: durational limits and content-based definitions raise First Amendment concerns after Reed v. Town of Gilbert (2015), so the size and location rules are the most reliably enforceable provisions.
Posting political signs on public property, in the right-of-way, oversized beyond 18 square feet, or outside the permitted window subjects the responsible party to a $250 fine and city removal of the signs.
