Lynwood's sign code does not create a garage-sale sign category, and the types of signs typically used for yard sales, portable and right-of-way signs, are prohibited under Municipal Code section 25-70-5.
Lynwood Municipal Code Article 70 lists no permit for temporary garage or yard-sale signs. Section 25-70-5 expressly prohibits portable signs, including A-frames and sandwich boards, signs in the public right-of-way, and inflatable signs, balloons, or flags. The permitted-sign list in section 25-70-2 covers real estate, nameplate, and institutional signs, but not garage-sale advertising. As a result, garage-sale signs placed on utility poles, in parkways, on medians, or as portable roadside signs are not authorized and may be removed as illegal signs. A homeowner's safest option is a single on-site sign on their own private property.
Attaching garage-sale signs to poles, placing them in the right-of-way, or using portable A-frame signs violates LMC 25-70-5 and can result in sign removal and code enforcement citations.
