Santa Clarita, CA Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

080 (Sign Regulations (Private Property)), meaning there is no standalone garage-sale sign rule; the general private-property sign code governs it. The applicable category is subsection (S), Temporary Freestanding or Temporary Mounted Signs, which in the R (residential) zone permits noncommercial temporary signs, the category a garage sale sign falls into, at a maximum of 32 square feet per sign and 100 square feet of combined temporary sign area per parcel. Temporary signs may be placed in a front or side yard but cannot encroach into the public right-of-way, cannot be lighted, and must be taken down within ten days after the event they advertise ends, meaning a garage-sale sign has to come down within ten days of the sale's last day even though the sale itself may only run one to three days.

Subsection (S)(6) also limits what the sign can say: text that reads like a commercial advertisement, such as a phone number, web address or pricing meant to promote a business, is prohibited on a noncommercial temporary sign. 080(S) are followed.
