Lynwood limits fences, walls and hedges to six feet behind the front yard setback in residential zones and eight feet in commercial or manufacturing zones. Within the front yard, fences and walls are capped at 48 inches and hedges at 36 inches.
Under Lynwood Municipal Code Section 25-10-12, the maximum height of all fences, walls and hedges behind the front yard setback is six feet (6') in residential districts and eight feet (8') in commercial and manufacturing districts. Anything located within the front yard setback is more restricted: fences and walls may not exceed forty-eight inches (48") and hedges may not exceed thirty-six inches (36"). Decorative fences and decorative columns with caps in the front yard area are also capped at 48 inches. Height is measured from the top of the fence, wall or hedge down to the finished grade. Clear corner sight-visibility rules also apply.
Fences exceeding these heights are code violations enforced by the Development Services Department. Nonconforming fences may require removal or modification, and a permit is required before installation.
