Lynwood, CA Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Section 25-10-12(B)(1) of the Lynwood Municipal Code splits fence, wall and hedge height by location on the lot and by zoning district. Behind the required front yard setback, residential districts allow up to 6 feet and commercial and manufacturing districts allow up to 8 feet. Inside the front yard setback itself, the limit drops in every district to 48 inches for a fence or wall and 36 inches for a hedge, unless another provision of the same article states otherwise. Decorative fences and decorative columns with caps in the front yard are held to that same 48-inch limit under subsection B6, and any solid decorative wall support in the front yard cannot exceed 24 inches in width or be spaced closer than 8 feet apart under subsection B7.

Subsection B5 folds in the Section 25-10-8 clear corner sight-visibility requirement, so a fence near an intersection cannot exceed the height the corner triangle allows even if it would otherwise be under 6 or 8 feet. Every new fence in every zoning district, including a solid block wall, needs a permit from the development services department's planning division under subsection E, and a denied applicant can appeal to the planning commission, which decides the appeal based on whether the fence is aesthetically attractive, compatible with surrounding properties, consistent with neighboring fence design, and not harmful to public health, safety or welfare.
