Pecan Acres CDP (part), Tarrant County, Texas Sign Regulations: Political Signs Rules (2026)

Political signs in unincorporated Tarrant County fall under three overlapping rules. First, signs may not be placed on public property or in public road right-of-way. Texas Transportation Code Chapter 393 prohibits erecting or placing signs on public highway right-of-way outside the boundaries of a home-rule city, and the Tarrant County Transportation Services Department and TxDOT remove violating signs. Second, Texas Election Code Section 259.002 prohibits the placement of political advertising signs within 100 feet of a polling place entrance on election day and during early voting. Third, Texas Property Code Section 202.009 protects a homeowner right to display political signs on their property from HOA restrictions during the period beginning 90 days before an election and ending 10 days after, subject to reasonable limits: signs may not exceed 36 by 48 inches, may not be illuminated, may not contain roofing materials or dangerous construction, and may not be attached to plants or traffic-control devices in the HOA common area. Candidates and parties are expected to remove their own signs promptly after the election; leaving them long after becomes a nuisance and possible littering violation. Content-based regulation is generally unconstitutional, meaning counties cannot treat political signs more strictly than other temporary signs of similar size.
